7 Benefits of Root Canal Treatment

600 600 Macatawa Smiles

It’s not uncommon for people to be afraid of root canals. However, our emergency dentists in Holland, MI, want to put your mind at ease. The truth is that root canal treatment may be the best option if you have an abscessed tooth. Not only does it allow our dentists to remove the infection, but it also helps them save your tooth from needing extraction.

The sooner you seek emergency dental care, the sooner we’ll be able to diagnose and treat the source of your pain.

In the meantime, here are the top 7 benefits of root canal therapy.

1. Pain Relief

One of the primary reasons for getting an emergency root canal is to relieve the pain caused by an infected or inflamed tooth. While the thought of the procedure might seem daunting, the goal is to eliminate the source of your discomfort. Modern techniques and anesthesia make the process much more comfortable than you might expect. Patients often feel immediate relief from the intense pain they were experiencing before the root canal procedure.

2. Saving Your Natural Tooth

Root canal treatment helps save your natural tooth. Instead of extracting the tooth, which can lead to other dental issues, a root canal allows you to keep your natural smile. Maintaining your natural tooth is always preferable because it functions better than any artificial replacement and keeps your mouth healthy.

3. Preventing Infection Spread

An untreated tooth infection can spread to other parts of your mouth, jaw, and even your bloodstream, potentially leading to serious health issues. Root canal treatment removes the infected tissue from the tooth, preventing the spread of infection and protecting your overall health.

4. Efficient and Cost-Effective

While root canal therapy may seem costly at first, it helps you save money in the long run compared to extracting a tooth and replacing it with a bridge or implant. The procedure itself is efficient, typically completed in one or two visits, saving you time and future expenses on more complex dental work.

5. Improving Oral and General Health

By addressing the infection in your tooth, root canal treatment contributes to better overall health. Oral health is closely linked to overall health, and untreated dental issues can lead to other systemic problems, such as heart disease or diabetes complications. Keeping your mouth healthy can improve your overall well-being.

6. Restoring Functionality

After a root canal, the tooth can be restored with a crown or filling, allowing you to use it normally for chewing and speaking. This restoration strengthens the tooth and restores its full functionality, ensuring that you can enjoy your favorite foods without discomfort or difficulty.

7. Aesthetic Benefits

In addition to functional benefits, root canal treatment can also improve the appearance of your teeth. The procedure can help eliminate discoloration caused by infection and allow for a natural-looking restoration. This can boost your confidence and help you maintain a beautiful, healthy smile.

COVID-19 UPDATE FROM DR. HABECKER AND HIS TEAM

Dear Patient Family,

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a difficult time for all of us. Many of you have been forced to wait for dental care and we appreciate your understanding while we kept our office closed to follow orders from the Governor's Office.

We are happy to say that we are opening our office for all patient treatment on June 1st, 2020. Our hours of operation will go back to normal, Monday-Thursday 8am - 5pm. We want you to know that there will be some changes at your next appointment. Please be patient with us as our protocols will inevitably change as new guidelines are released.

  • We ask that you use our parking lot as the waiting room.
  • Please wear a mask when you come into the office and leave it on until entering the treatment room. Homemade is acceptable.
  • Only the person receiving treatment should come in the building, all others will be asked to wait in the car if at all possible. The exception will be for our minor patients who may have one parent accompany them.
  • We will be asking you some questions when you arrive at the office and we will also be taking your temperature.
  • We will not be able to offer magazines, drinks, or toys at this time as they cannot be disinfected to our standards. Eventually this will change and we will be happy to offer our amenities once again.

These changes have been made to adhere to the latest CDC guidelines and for the benefit of our patients and our staff. We want you to know that our office has always taken the safety of our patients very seriously and that we will continue to follow the highest levels of sterilization and disinfection to keep you protected. If you would like more information on what measures we have taken we would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

We cannot say how excited we are to see all of our patients again and to provide for their dental needs. We look forward to seeing all of your smiling faces soon!
