If you’re considering straightening your teeth but don’t want to deal with the look or feel of traditional braces, Invisalign® might be the perfect solution. This clear aligner system has transformed millions of smiles using removable, nearly invisible trays that gradually shift your teeth into alignment. But is Invisalign right for everyone? In this blog post, our Invisalign dentists in Holland, MI, explain who makes a good candidate for Invisalign and what to expect during treatment.

Mild to Moderate Orthodontic Issues

Invisalign is ideal for patients with mild to moderate alignment problems. This includes issues such as crowded teeth, small gaps, minor overbites, underbites, crossbites, and open bites.

While more complex cases may still benefit from traditional braces or combination treatment, Invisalign technology has advanced significantly and can now address many types of malocclusion that were once thought to be too severe for clear aligners.

That said, each person’s case is unique. During your consultation, our Invisalign dentists will evaluate your bite, tooth position, and jaw alignment to determine whether Invisalign is appropriate for your goals.

Commitment to Wearing the Aligners

One of the benefits of Invisalign is that the trays are removable, allowing you to eat, drink, brush, and floss with ease. However, with this flexibility comes responsibility. For Invisalign to work effectively, you must wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day.

If you’re someone who may forget to put your aligners back in after meals or frequently misplace things, you may want to consider whether a more fixed orthodontic option would suit your lifestyle better. Invisalign works best when patients are committed to wearing the trays as instructed and switching to the next set on schedule.

Suitable for Teens and Adults

Invisalign clear aligners are a great option for both teens and adults. Teenagers who are self-conscious about their appearance may prefer Invisalign over traditional braces. Plus, many Invisalign aligners for teens come with compliance indicators to help monitor wear time.

Adults often appreciate the discreet nature of Invisalign, especially if they’re in professional settings or social environments where metal braces may feel out of place. As long as your teeth and gums are healthy, there’s typically no age limit for Invisalign treatment.

Good Oral Health Is Essential

To be a candidate for Invisalign, your teeth and gums must be healthy. That means no active gum disease or untreated cavities. If you have any dental health issues, they will need to be addressed before starting treatment. This ensures that your teeth can move safely and predictably throughout the Invisalign process.

Regular dental cleanings and checkups during your Invisalign treatment are also important to monitor progress and keep your smile healthy.

COVID-19 UPDATE FROM DR. HABECKER AND HIS TEAM

Dear Patient Family,

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a difficult time for all of us. Many of you have been forced to wait for dental care and we appreciate your understanding while we kept our office closed to follow orders from the Governor's Office.

We are happy to say that we are opening our office for all patient treatment on June 1st, 2020. Our hours of operation will go back to normal, Monday-Thursday 8am - 5pm. We want you to know that there will be some changes at your next appointment. Please be patient with us as our protocols will inevitably change as new guidelines are released.

  • We ask that you use our parking lot as the waiting room.
  • Please wear a mask when you come into the office and leave it on until entering the treatment room. Homemade is acceptable.
  • Only the person receiving treatment should come in the building, all others will be asked to wait in the car if at all possible. The exception will be for our minor patients who may have one parent accompany them.
  • We will be asking you some questions when you arrive at the office and we will also be taking your temperature.
  • We will not be able to offer magazines, drinks, or toys at this time as they cannot be disinfected to our standards. Eventually this will change and we will be happy to offer our amenities once again.

These changes have been made to adhere to the latest CDC guidelines and for the benefit of our patients and our staff. We want you to know that our office has always taken the safety of our patients very seriously and that we will continue to follow the highest levels of sterilization and disinfection to keep you protected. If you would like more information on what measures we have taken we would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

We cannot say how excited we are to see all of our patients again and to provide for their dental needs. We look forward to seeing all of your smiling faces soon!
